Styling The Fine Art Wedding Workshop: Boudoir Edition
Did you know I style more than weddings? One of the things I love most about styling workshops and styled shoots is getting to branch out and create designs for different kinds of events. Most of the shoots I do are weddings, but occasionally I get to flex my muscles and style other kinds of events and photo shoots. As part of our workshop series, The Fine Art Wedding Workshop, Jenn Marie Wedding Photography and I wanted to highlight boudoir photography as part of the wedding photography realm. You got a sneak peak of the photos from our Swan Lake boudoir shoot in my post about why I love boudoir photography as a pre-wedding photo session; here is the whole session.
We continued the ballet theme from our Nutcracker Land of the Sweets workshop in Pittsburgh, my adopted stomping grounds and Jenn’s hometown, with this Swan Lake themed shoot in Chicago, Jenn’s current realm. We also included some boudoir poses in the getting ready portion of the Downton Abbey shoot, and while both are examples of fine art boudoir, these are more sensual than those were, and more editorial in style. Both are great examples of how there is something that will appeal all to everyone.
We knew that, like the ballet, we wanted to have a white and a black swan, and I knew that I wanted a more overt nod to ballet for this shoot than we had for the Nutcracker shoot. Lovely in Lace provided a leotard-style body suit and a romantic white lace bralette and panty, that I accessorized with pointe shoes, tutus, and feather accents.
The details make this shoot amazing. The combination of the soft, romantic aspects we associate with ballet and an edgier, rock and roll feeling still within the ballet sphere like that of Natalie Portman in Black Swan is what makes this shoot so interesting to me. I love contrasts, and our vendors captured that perfectly.
Creating a workshop in Chicago in January is a bold choice, and we could not have done it without these vendors and models, several of whom jumped in at the last minute when others were not able to make it due to blizzard forecasts.
